Cabinet of curiosities means a collection of objects which influenced a person and for which he can make a passion. The first time when I have heard about the term of Cabinet of Curiosities ,I found out that the term itself served as a piece of furniture. Starting with the 16th century, the way of collecting different kind of interests changed. Its role changed as well , in time being more than just a gallery of passions, it often served scientific advancement when images of their contents were published.When I received the assignment of making my own Cabinet of Curiosity,I knew this is my chance of assessing my own passions. So I start thinking about the movies or the TV shows I’ve been watching lately ,the magazines or the books I read. Thinking about all these I realized media affects me more than I ever thought. But other things should also belong to this Cabinet,things like my passion for jewellery, shoes as many as the other girls here . In time ,media offered me a lot of titles of movies, shows or magazines which I could easily love ,but only in some of them I found myself . Movies like..
Dear John,
This film tells the story of a young soldier whofalls for a student girl .During the spring break ,the young student ,Savannah Curtis meets John Tyree. For the two characters the meeting on the beach in that day means love at first sight. They spent their spring break together, promising that they will wait one for each other. In the following years they correspond, the girls’ letters meaning for the young soldier more than some romantic gestures; he manages to go through all the dangerous missions, just with this evidence of love. But the love story ends tragically, because the girl did not keep her promise and married another man. Their feelings didn’t change in time, but a promise which wasn’t kept destroyed what was built before.
Another great movie is Chloe
As you can see Amanda Seyfried is one of my favorite actresses. A doctor hires an escort to seduce her husband, whom she suspects of cheating, though unforeseen events put the family in danger. This movie shows exactly how the things can easily just turn around. An obsession becomes uncontrollable devastating almost the entire family,everything starting because of the lack of trust.
Shottas is a jamaican crime film about two young men who participate in organized crime in Kingston,Jamaica and Miami. Despite its low budget, this movie made me aware of the problems the Jamaican people had to go through,in the end they just tried to have a better life. Following the wrong path ,even the movie’s name proves that coming from a Jamaican term for gangsters,they realize money is not everything.
Factory Girl
This movie tells the story of two big stars,known to have a huge impact on the population in the 20th century. Its about Edie Sedgwick,a diva which defined a glamorous life and in the same time the hard fall, no-one expected. Coming to New York,Edie he meets Andy Warhol who sees in her the frivolity of a young, rich girl. He is going to transform her into an irresistible muse, the idea of a great celebrity, any girl would have wanted to be . But once the celebrity came , it didn’t take long till the sex, the drugs, the alcohol and in the end the fall came.
My passion for clothes,news, more or less important, brought me in face with some of the biggest magazines ,like Cosmopolitan,Vogue. Starting with buying them only from curiosity, once at every 2-3 months, slowly,I made it my habit. Now if I look back I realize I have kind of a big collection, collecting them for over 3 years.
Cosmopolitan is an international magazine for women.Also known as Cosmo, its current content includes articles on relationships and sex, health, careers, self-improvement, celebrities, as well as fashion and beauty. Even though some of you might doubt it,this magazine is known for helping different kind of people on a large scale of problems, containing information about almost anything. I also helps me forget about the real world,at least for few hours,while im reading it 😛
I am also a big fan of Vogue.Vogue is a fashion and lifestyle . Each month, Vogue publishes a magazine addressing topics of fashion, life and design. Vogue is most famous as a presenter of images of high fashion and high society, but it also publishes writings on art, culture, politics, and ideas.The company which launched the magazine also created their own fashion line.Who doesn’t wish to work for Vogue ?
Leaving the magazines away , i would like to talk about some of the TV Shows which i enjoy watching. TV Shows like Gossip Girl,Grey’s Anathomy,House,Sex and the city,The Tudors.
Gossip Girl
Go to Gossip! Surely,GG is one of the best Tv Shows I’ve seen. Who thinks that GG is only a show about rich spoiled kids, is wrong. Actually, the show proves that even the rich ones, whose lives seem wonderful , go through really hard times. Their desire of integration between the “ normal” kids,the sacrifices of the other population,keeping their reputation, the facet that their parents are never there for them, the divorce and sexual orientation,the adoption and mostly their love lives. A tv Show which you can only love and enjoy.
Grey’s Anatomy
These tv series can easily top my favorite because of my love for the medical school. I can find myself in the actors and their roles,in their lack of amusement and in their happiness for when they do what they love the most.How much is fiction and how much is truth in the spectacular cases they manage to resolve? It’s all left to our imagination.
Noaptea devoratorilor de publicitate(The night of the adverstising feast)-“Natural Advertising”
My passion for advertising was also fed by media,through a tv show which I discovered few years ago. Its called Natural advertising and was started in Romania. Mainly,it’s addressed to the lovers for adverts and commercials. Every year,one night per year,people gather in one of the biggest squares in Bucharest and watch on a big screen the best commercials made until that moment. It’s a 7 hours program where I could watch the most brilliant ideas of the people who are working in this field. I guess I always imagined one day ,one of them will be mine .
